Our cooperation with Seznam.cz in the construction of data centers is nothing new. We have previously worked as the general contractor for the older Kokura data center project, built in 2015, which granted Seznam partial independence from external housing service suppliers. As in the previous project, we also provide a complete technical construction, installation and commissioning of all technologies at the Nagoya data center.
What will the new Seznam data center look like?
The Nagoya Data Center is being built on a plot in Benátky nad Jizerou. As Seznam.cz is the largest internet search engine in the Czech Republic as well as a provider of a large spectrum of data and information services, the amount of processed data is truly gigantic. The server building therefore has to correspond to this. It occupies approximately 1,200 square meters and the price of the entire project is in the hundreds of millions of crowns.
The Nagoya data center will replace the previous Nagano data center, which Seznam.cz has long leased from O2. New housing units will be created in the original server building.
Once completed, it will have a capacity of 3 MW, with the possibility of expansion in the future. In the space of two large server halls, there will be a total of 200 48U racks with increased density. These halls will house special servers which Seznam.cz develops and produces as part of its Montovna project.
The high performance of the data center requires special cooling
It is obvious that servers with a capacity of 3 MW will produce a huge amount of heat that needs to be dissipated. We have therefore designed an innovative cooling system, using direct freecooling technology, which cools the data center premises using outdoor air. This technology makes it possible to completely omit machine cooling, which means significant energy savings. The PUE target is set at 1.1.
A new data center requires new technology
The new Nagoya Data Center will require autonomous operation and high efficiency. Therefore, in cooperation with Seznam.cz, we are developing a new generation of control and monitoring systems at our internal Altron Innovation Lab, in order to achieve the required parameters.
Aside the Nagoya project, we are also innovating the Kokura data center
With the growing complexity and demand for computing power in the Internet search engine, Seznam.cz remembers to improve its current Kokura data center. As a result, along with the construction of the Nagoya data center in Benátky nad Jizerou, the current capacities of the Kokura center will be strengthened and a new hall is set to be constructed.
The Nagoya Data Center will be completed at the turn of 2022 and 2023
Work is currently underway both on the construction of the Nagoya project and the expansion of the existing Kokura center. The commissioning of the new data center is planned for the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023.
